Mr Mawdsley is a fellowship trained consultant orthopaedic spinal surgeon whose specialist interest is in degenerative conditions affecting the adult spine, from the neck to the coccyx. He has developed an extensive practice in spinal surgery including discectomy surgery, decompression surgery and fusion surgeries.
Mr Mawdsley attended the University of Manchester and completed his higher specialist training in trauma and orthopaedics locally in the Northern Deanery. He was awarded Surgical College Fellowship in trauma and orthopaedics FRCS in 2016 and admission to the General Medical Council Specialist Register and award of Completion of Specialist Training in 2017. From 2017 to 2019, Mr Mawdsley completed 2 two prestigious fellowships in complex spinal surgery, the National British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Northumbria and as the Advanced Spinal Fellow in Leeds General Infirmary.
Since 2019 Mr Mawdsley has been a consultant spinal surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Mawdsley is affiliated to many professional organisations including membership of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, British Orthopaedic Association and is a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of Edinburgh.
Mr Mawdsley is actively involved in research and has publications in renowned journals and book chapters. He is heavily involved in medical education, teaching junior doctors and medical students and working as a Royal College of Surgeons of England Surgical Tutor. Mr Mawdsley is the lead editor in spine for the United Kingdom and Ireland In-training Examination, an integral part of training for orthopaedic trainee surgeons.
