Having suffered from lower back pain for a number of years I was referred to meet Mr Kasis. I was very active – weight lifting, spinning and doing Pilates, I was eventually unable to live my life the way I wanted to. From the moment I met Mr Kasis I had total confidence in him to perform ALIF and PLIF surgery on L4/L5. He explained why my back was causing me pain and how the operation would to relieve this pain.
On the day of the operation everyone at Wansbeck Hospital was kind and empathic, from the nursing staff to the anaesthetist, and of course Mr Kasis. We talked before my operation and afterwards the same day. He checked in on me the day after my operation and the following day when I left hospital. I honestly don’t know where he finds the time but he does, you are never made to feel like a name on a list, which is incredible for a man in such demand.
Be prepared for life at home after the operation, you will need help initially to shower and dress. You aren’t allowed to bend, lift or twist for four months, so plan ahead. Do walk every day, building up distance and listen to your body. Have a positive attitude and make the most of the incredible surgery you have had. It’s up to us as patients to help ourselves.
10 months after my operation the pain I had is gone. I am back to exercise and started spinning and Pilates again after around 6 months. The only pain I get is occasional muscle pain as a result of doing too much, and some nerve pain in my left buttock which I can relieve by using a massage ball. I have my life back which is priceless.
I would highly recommend Mr Kasis, not only is he an expert in his field but also as the most personable surgeon who genuinely cares about his patients.
